September 7 - Get inspired at the Fall Home Show

Walking into a newly renovated home can be inspirational. From the modern design, to the fresh paint, to the new appliances, it can serve as motivation to get out and give your own home makeover.

August 31 - When you see a construction site, think jobs.

BILD Chair Paul Golini used a smart analogy the other day to describe our industry's job creation and economic impact. He said that just like the auto industry has created thousands of jobs in Ontario and the GTA, so has the home-building industry.

August 24 - Things to consider before buying a new home

In last weekend's Toronto Sun, I read an interesting column by Hugh Heron, principal and partner in the Heron Group of Companies and president of Heathwood Homes. He talked about the importance of taking the length of your commute into consideration when buying a new home.

August 17 - Tackling the underground economy

When the national RenoMark™ program was first launched back in 2001, its primary goal was to help homeowners differentiate a professional renovator from the rising number of rogue contractors giving the renovation industry a bad name.

August 10 - A look at the housing market south of the border

Our neighbours to the south have been anxious for a sign of economic improvement and I think finally, after years of decline and stagnation, the U.S. national home prices are entering the early stages of recovery.

August 3 - Stability in new home sales

It seems like only yesterday the Year of the Condo headlines graced the covers of glossy magazines and daily newspapers. An interesting time, indeed, with some claiming the boom to continue for years to come while others predicting a quick fall.

July 27 - Raising hammers, funds and awareness

In our industry, we raise our hammers every day to build communities across the GTA. Every year, the industry gathers to raise something else that's just as important-funds and awareness-for the Association's community partner, Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Just last week BILD hosted its 20th annual Charity BBQ in support of Habitat and we had more than 500 members and guests show their support by donating more than $36,000 to the cause.

July 20 - Make your house a dream home

Remember that tune by The Clash that asked "Should I stay or should I go now?"  Some homeowners across the GTA are thinking just that when it comes to renovating their home.

July 13 - Older condos ripe for renovation

Have you ever walked into a home and immediately thought about how you would renovate it? I'm sure you've seen a few fixer-uppers that could use a little TLC. Would you think the same way about a condominium?

July 6 - Hammering away across the GTA

When I first came to BILD, I had the opportunity to meet a very engaged group of our renovator members and hear about their many accomplishments. Around that time, I was also introduced to RenoMark™. I learned that the program identifying professional contractors was founded here in the GTA and has now been adopted by home builders' associations across the nation.

June 29 - Building on what we’ve got

Since the first glass panel fell from a condominium balcony last year, the Association and its members, along with its Ontario affiliate, have been actively trying to find a solution to the problem.

June 22 - Columns will create connections

This is my first time writing a column as the Building Industry and Land Development Association's President and CEO, so I thought I would start off by telling you about how I found my first home.
