Rewarding creativity and innovation

From the moment guests took their seats-and there were nearly 1,000 of them-at the 32nd annual BILD Awards, the night was off to an entertaining start. A flash mob of disguised singers and dancers arose from the seated crowd and got everyone on their feet and singing Lionel Ritchie's "All Night Long" covered by the talented Dave Murphy Band.

That definitely set the stage for the show, which garnered a record-setting 1,200 award submissions in 49 categories. This year's event was the biggest yet and the projects that won in each category have set the bar higher for creativity and innovation in the industry.

Geranium Homes was crowned 2012 BILD Home Builder of the Year for the first time in the company's history.  Project of the Year awards went to Treasure Hill Developments for its townhouse development, block, in Toronto's west end, and Lindvest Properties for B.streets Condos at Bathurst and Bloor Streets.

I was extremely proud to learn that my company, Empire Communities, won the Green Builder of the Year in the low-rise category for the second consecutive year and that Tridel would take home the trophy in the high-rise category for the fifth time in the last six years.

Celebrating a lifetime of achievements, Rudolph Bratty, Chairman and CEO of Remington Group Inc. was honoured with the prestigious BILD Lifetime Achievement Award and for excellence in sales, marketing and leadership in the industry, Mira Tomljenovic of In2ition Marketing Insights was presented with The Riley Brethour Award.

Honouring the late Stephen Dupuis, the inaugural Stephen Dupuis Community Building Award was given to The Mikey Network, a charity founded in memory of the late Mike Salem by The Heron Group of Companies that works to install defibrillators, called MIKEYs, in public venues so that victims of cardiac arrest have an increased chance of survival.
An inspiring and thrilling night overall - congratulations to all of the BILD Award winners!
