Why association awards matter

Hollywood's awards season might be a wrap, but ours is just getting started. Next week, we'll gather at an industry luncheon to officially open the National Home Show and honour the best of the best renovation and custom builders across the GTA. We even have a new award this year for Best Condominium Renovation - and I'm sure it wasn't easy for our judges to decide the winner in that category.

These awards are important to our members because it's a pat on the back from their peers and recognition for all of their hard work, but the awards are also important to our consumers. So much so, that the categories have evolved over the years to become more consumer-relevant and while we still give out awards for ads, logos and brochures, we also give out awards for suite design, community excellence and green building.

So of the 31 finalists this year, eight awards will be handed out for a variety of projects and all of them, from the kitchen facelifts, to the well-planned additions, to the stunning custom homes, are design-magazine quality. If you're looking for some renovation inspiration - you don't have to go far. All of our finalists' before-and-after photos will be showcased at the BILD Destination Renovation booth at the Home Show, March 16-25 at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place-so come on by!

About a month after we close down the Home Show, the industry will gather again at the year's most anticipated event - the BILD Awards. It will be the 32nd annual awards ceremony, presented by the Association and recognizing the very best of the GTA's new home construction industry.

With more than 1,100 submissions in 47 categories, this is going to be the best BILD Awards show we've ever had. Just like in Hollywood, the envelopes are kept under lock and key. So, as soon as I know, I'll share the news because you might just be moving into an award-winning home.
